Faber has acquired a first novel from Max Porter, senior editor at Granta Books, whose authors include Norman Rush and Booker-winner Eleanor Catton.
Hannah Griffiths, fiction publisher at Faber, signed world rights to Grief is the Thing with Feathers, a story of a father and two young boys in the weeks following the death of their mother.
Griffiths said: “Anyone who has worked with Max knows him to be one of the most sensitive and insightful readers of literary works. Here we see those gifts in his own writing along with humour, compassion and bravura style. This book is the announcement of a great new talent.”
Grief… will be published in autumn 2015.
