Faber has signed Edna O’Brien’s first novel in 10 years.
Creative director Lee Brackstone signed UK and Commonwealth rights in The Little Red Chairs from Ed Victor, and will publish in February 2016, simultaneously with Little, Brown in the US.
The book sees a wanted war criminal settle in a small Irish village, where a local woman falls in love with him — with terrible consequences.
Brackstone said: "It has been ten years since the last novel from Edna O'Brien and The Little Red Chairs reminds us why she is recognised as one of the great Irish writers, of any generation. Edna has gone deep into the darkness for this book and she returns with a book of monumental emotional intelligence and courage. The novel burns with a fierce lyricism and dares to suggest there is a way back to redemption and hope when great evil is done. It may be her masterpiece."
