Faber and Profile Books are publishing their first picture book with Horrid Henry author Francesca Simon this October.
Hack and Whack features mischievous Viking twins 'Hack' and 'Whack' who “refuse to go to bed, causing absolute chaos”. It is illustrated by debut artist Charlotte Cotterill.
Children's publisher Leah Thaxton acquired world rights for the book from Rosemary Sandberg and Frances McKay Illustration. The book will be published jointly by the two independent publishers, Faber and Profile, continuing a partnership of co-publishing Simon’s books which has happened since The Sleeping Army in 2011.
Thaxton said: “Simon’s penchant for Viking characters and writing about mischievous behaviour are brilliantly combined in this charming story and Charlotte's illustrations are just perfect for this level of mayhem.”
Simon said her love of Norse mythology meant it was “delightful fun” to write the book.
She added: “I think my illustrator Charlotte Cotterill has captured brilliantly all the exuberance and fun of these wild little Vikings.”
Cotterill said it had been an “amazing experience” for her picture book debut.
Simon has sold 9.94 million book making £45.9m altogether, according to Nielsen BookScan.
Hack and Whack will be published on October 5th in paperback and will retail at £6.99.
