Faber adds sales force for indies

Faber has launched a new sales force for diverse independent publishers dubbed Faber Factory Plus.

Six publishers, Gallic Books, Arcadia Books, Pushkin Press, Bloodaxe Books, Carcanet Press and Gibson Square, have already signed up to the list, which will launch in March 2012.

Ian West, currently sales director at Quadrille, has been appointed sales director for Faber Factory Plus and will join on 3rd October. Bridget Latimer-Jones, sales and trade marketing office manager at Walker Books, has been appointed operations manager and will join on 11th October.

Faber Factory Plus will remain outside Faber's Independent Alliance of larger indie publishers. It will sell titles into Europe from 2012. Last year, Faber launched Faber Factory, which offered digital services to independent publishers.

Will Atkinson, Faber sales and marketing director, said: "We have always viewed Factory as a launchpad for further services for the independent sector and physical selling—to put alongside the digital offering—makes a sure-footed first move. We have huge ambition for this endeavour. We want the hallmark of the service to be excellent feedback from the market to inform publishing decisions and good access to all customers."

Jane Aitken, managing director of Gallic Books, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be one of the launch publishers of Faber Factory Plus. Faber's wealth of experience and excellent reputation will provide the best possible environment for us to grow the Gallic Books list."

Michael Schmidt, managing and editorial director of Carcanet Press, said: "For years Faber's proactive and collegiate approach has lighted the way for literary publishers. Faber Factory Plus is a characteristically radical initiative to extend the franchise for innovative and experimental writing of all kinds. It's a huge opportunity for independents like us at a time of accelerating change."
