Hodder & Stoughton will publish a new book by explorer Levison Wood, to accompany a television series.
Wood’s Walking the Himalayas sees him explore five countries along the mountain range. Wood will present a Channel 4 series about his journey in spring 2016.
Hodder and Little, Brown US acquired world rights, including translation and serial through Jo Cantello of Wolfsong Media.
Hodder non-fiction publisher Rupert Lancaster said: “Hodder & Stoughton has a proud heritage of publishing intrepid explorers and we’re thrilled to be part of Lev’s exciting new project. He’s an outstanding writer in the classic tradition of British author/adventurers and we’re delighted to welcome him to Hodder.”
Wood, whose last book Walking the Nile (Simon & Schuster) also accompanied a television series, said: “Walking the Himalayas will explore the reasons we travel, the concept of freedom and being ‘on the road’, as well as looking at the role of history, anthropology and current affairs in some of the most unstable parts of the world. But more than anything, it is a story of personal adventure and striving beyond the limits of convention.
“Above all, I want to show others that anything is possible, with a bit of preparation, a little luck and a lot of balls. I want to get youngsters interested in the planet on which we live. Britain has always been at the forefront of world exploration and led the charge in pushing boundaries. I want others to be inspired and feel compelled to do the same.”
