Actor and writer Rupert Everett has won the Sheridan Morley Prize for Theatre Biography with his book, Vanished Years (Little, Brown).
The book beat off competition from writers such as Simon Callow. The winner was announced at the Garrick Club today (27th February).
Established in 2008, the £2,000 prize commemorates Sheridan Morley, a writer who specialised in biographies of actors and directors, including Sir John Gielgud and David Niven.
The prize, which is administered by Oberon Books, was judged by Ruth Leon, Mark Shenton, Braham Murray and Isla Blair, with Everett’s memoir praised as “surprising, hilarious and wise”.
Vanished Years is Everett’s second book of memoirs, following on from Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins (Little, Brown).
