Bonnier Books UK has appointed Greg Evaristo to its board as a non-executive director. He will also be contributing to the business' people strategy, with a particular focus on the ongoing development of its diversity and inclusion plan.
Evaristo has 30 years' experience within the publishing industry, most recently founding and leading Gregory Martin Executive Search, the publishing headhunting business agency. Before that he ran a coaching and talent development business that coached numerous senior level publishing executives. He was also a founder member of the MindStore School of Coaching and he was on the advisory board of the original College of Life Coaching.
Prior to that, Evaristo ran GMA Marketing Services, which ran bespoke book marketing promotions, including campaigns for Hachette, Pan Macmillan and Penguin Random House. He also previously held senior sales roles at Transworld and HarperCollins.
Evaristo’s father was a Nigerian immigrant to the UK, and he was brought up with his eight siblings in a working-class environment in London. His sister is the author Bernardine Evaristo, the 2019 Booker Prize-winning author of Girl, Woman, Other (Hamish Hamilton).
Bonnier Books UK c.e.o. Perminder Mann said Evaristo's appointment builds on a decade-long working relationship with Bonnier Books UK, and she welcomed him to the board for his "indepth knowledge", "fresh insight" and "business instincts". He will also be assisting with the delivery of the company's annual diversity and inclusion report, covering all aspects of the business, pledged by the company earlier in the year.
"I’m absolutely thrilled that Greg has agreed to join us as a non-executive director," said Mann. "I’ve known him since I began my career in publishing and he’s worked with us as a partner of Bonnier Books UK for over 10 years now. Our people are undoubtedly our most important asset and Greg’s in-depth knowledge in this field, coupled with his fresh insight and business instincts make him the perfect addition to our board. I’m also really looking forward to working with him on our diversity and inclusion plan – this is such a complex and important initiative, I’m excited that it will benefit from Greg’s valuable perspective."
Evaristo commented: "It’s a hugely exciting time to join Bonnier Books UK. I’ve been very lucky to have previously worked closely with Perminder for some years and she is truly an inspirational and charismatic leader. Together with Jonathan Perdoni [Bonnier Books UK chief operating officer and chief finance officer] and the senior leadership team, she has built a formidable team creating a non-corporate, entrepreneurial culture allowing for talent to flourish and all staff to feel part of the company’s success. The company has very ambitious growth plans and with the proven ability and experience of their board, they are perfectly placed to take advantage of the unique opportunities that this strangest of years has thrown up. I’m really looking forward to be able to play some part in their success."
