Austrian pop star and drag performer Conchita Wurst—winner of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest—heads the final list of authors and celebrities to confirm they will appear at next week’s London Book Fair.
Wurst, whose real name is Thomas Neuwirth, will officially launch her autobiography, Being Conchita, on Wednesday at 2.15pm on the John Blake stand (2C40). Wurst won last year’s Eurovision with her power ballad “Rise Like a Phoenix”, and has since become a global superstar and gay icon. In February, John Blake m.d. Rosie Virgo acquired world English language rights to Conchita’s memoir, and the book will be published in the UK on 7th May.
Other celebrities slated to appear next week include rock legend Brian May, who will give a press conference on Wednesday at 11.30; model Caprice launching her autobiography on the Bonnier stand (6C90, Wednesday 3pm) and the BBC’s Chris Evans officially opening LBF’s The Club at the Ivy on Tuesday.
There have been also been late additions to the series of author talks at the PEN Literary Salon, including Ali Smith talking about her latest novel How to be Both (Hamish Hamilton) with the Guardian’s Claire Armistead (Wednesday, 1pm) and Costa First Novel winner Emma Healey appearing at 1pm on Tuesday.
LBF also announced that London Book and Screen week, its consumer facing event running at venues throughout the capital to coincide with LBF, had reached 130 scheduled events.
