Headline has acquired a first book by England cricketer Ben Stokes.
The deal for world rights was struck by non-fiction publishing director Jonathan Taylor with Neil Fairbrother, cricket director of International Sports Management.
Stokes, described as an "explosive all-rounder", scored the fastest ever test century at Lord’s in 2015. Then in January, in Cape Town, he scored the quickest ever test double-hundred by an Englishman.
Taylor said: "Ben Stokes is not cast in the same mould as the vast majority of English cricketers. On the field he is thrillingly combative and gladiatorial. Ben bats, bowls and fields at full throttle – and it is exhilarating to watch. His book will be autobiographical, but – rather like the man himself – not constructed in the conventional, straight-laced manner of many sports memoirs."
Headline will publish Firestarter in hardback, audio and e-book on 22nd September, priced £20.
