Eltringham and Cocadiz among Costa Book Awards judges

Booksellers Daniel Eltringham of Dulwich Books and Jo Anne Cocadiz of Foyles are among the judges of the 2013 Costa Book Awards.

The Costa First Novel award will be judged by novelist Fanny Blake, writer and broadcaster Matthew Cain and London Review of Books web manager Rachael Beale. Meanwhile The Costa Novel Award will be judged by broadcaster and author Clemency Burton-Hill, Marie Claire books editor Eithne Farry and author, and Bath Spa university professor of fiction, Gerard Woodward.

The Bookseller's non-fiction previewer Caroline Sanderson, author Anne de Courcy and broadcaster Paul Ross will judge the Costa Biography Award; while Dulwich Books' Eltringham, writer John Burnside and poet Olivia Cole will judge the Poetry category.

The Costa Children's Book Award will be judged by Foyles children's book buyer Jo Anne Cocadiz, and authors Emma Kennedy and Philip Womack.

The prize administrators said a record number of submissions had been made to this year's awards, at a total of 617. The number of books submitted in the children's category was also at a record, with a total of 151. Children's award judge Philip Womack said he had been "overwhelmed by the quality and diversity" of entries.

Meanwhile Novel category judge Clemency Burton-Hill said that the "range and ambition of the novels the judges are reading is spectacular".

Category shortlists will be announced on 27th November, category winners on 7th January 2014, and the overall Costa Book of the Year on 28th January.
