Egmont UK has signed two more books by Andrew Smith, the author of YA books Grasshopper Jungle and The Alex Crow.
Lindsey Heaven, editorial director at Egmont Publishing, secured the UK and Commonwealth rights from Kate McLennan at Abner Stein, acting for Lauren Abramo and Michael Bourret at Dystel & Goderich in the US.
The two new books are as yet untitled but Egmont said they will appeal to fans of his previous work, which were “literary, unexpected, weird, funny, dark coming-of-age tales”.
Heaven said: “Lindsey Heaven said of the deal: ‘We are thrilled to be publishing Andrew Smith's new YA books on the Electric Monkey imprint. Grasshopper Jungle and The Alex Crow are intelligent, funny, weird and downright brilliant books that blew apart any preconceptions people had previously held of what YA fiction should be. We are so excited to read what Andrew writes next.’
No release date is announced but the books will be published under Egmont’s Electric Monkey YA imprint.
The film rights for Grasshopper Jungle have been bought by Sony Pictures, and Edgar Wright of "Spaced", "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" fame is set to direct.
