Egmont reveals first ‘classics’ titles

Egmont has announced the first six titles in its new classics range, including Just So Stories and Alice in Wonderland.

The series, which is replacing the ‘heritage’ series, will launch in August with The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham, Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling, Peter Pan by J M Barrie, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson and A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. All titles will be published in hardback and will retail at £9.99.

Sarah Hughes, fiction publishing director at Egmont, said the six books are “favourite stories from childhood that have inspired reading for pleasure for decades”.

“These beautiful, fresh and contemporary designs will introduce a new generation of children to timeless classics and will remind adult what they first loved about them,” she said.

Three of the covers (Just So Stories, Alice in Wonderland and The Wind in the Willows) were designed in-house by Andrea Kearney, whilst external illustrators were hired for A Little Princess (Jonathan Burton), Treasure Island (Joe McLaren) and Peter Pan (Emmeline Pidgen).

Six further classic titles will be released in March 2016.
