Egmont will next year release an anthology of middle-grade mystery stories by authors such as Katherine Woodfine, Robin Stevens and Frances Hardinge.
Robin Stevens, who is also an assistant editor at Egmont, and fiction publishing director Sarah Hughes secured the world rights for Mystery & Mayhem in all languages from various agents.
Hughes said: “With the appetite for crime fiction and puzzle solving books for children on the rise, it felt like a wonderful opportunity to bring these talented authors together. Mystery fiction lends itself well to the short story format, and we’re absolutely thrilled with the way the collection has come together.”
Woodfine’s story will feature Lil, a character from her novel The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow (Egmont). She will also write an introduction to the book.
The other contributing authors are Clementine Beauvais, Elen Caldecott, Susie Day, Julia Golding, Caroline Lawrence, Helen Moss, Sally Nicholls, Kate Pankhurst and Harriet Whitehorn.
Publication is set for May 2016.
