Egmont has acquired a book about finding your voice and changing the world by Laura Coryton, the leader of a campaign against tampon tax.
Speak Up!, set for publication in March ahead of International Women’s Day, will encourage readers to not only read about inspiring women but to become one, too, according to the publisher. In the book Coryton talks about her campaign experiences and outlines the five golden steps needed to get a campaign from idea to launch.
Senior commissioning editor Emma Dods, who acquired world rights in all languages from Chloe Seager of Northbank Talent Management, said: “I can’t wait to share this empowering book with the world. Laura is such an inspiration and the perfect person to give young people the tools they need to deal with the challenges of modern life and to give them the confidence to speak up and use their voices to change the world.”
Coryton gathered more than a quarter of a million signatures when she campaigned against the tampon tax and has featured on the BBC’s 100 Women series. She received a New Radical Thinker award from The Guardian and was named 'Top Unknown World Change Maker' by The Independent in 2015.
“For everyone who has ever been annoyed by sexism, racism, homophobia or any other awful '-ism', this book has got your back,” said Coryton. “I hope it can empower a whole wave of rebel girls to speak up, get their voice heard and solve the problems they face through campaigning. When girls speak up, they can change the world.”
