Egmont has signed a deal for books three and four in Katherine Woodfine’s middle-grade mystery series, set in an Edwardian department store.
Books three and four will continue the adventure, starring young detectives Sophie Taylor and Lilian Rose, and will be published in spring and autumn 2017. Hannah Sandford, senior fiction editor, and Sarah Hughes, publishing director, negotiated the deal for world English language rights with Louise Lamont of LBA Literary Agency.
The first book The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow was published and was Waterstones’ book of the month in June. The second book, The Mystery of the Jewelled Moth, will be released in March 2016.
Hughes said: “We’re thrilled that The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow has been received so enthusiastically in the trade and by readers: it’s a real testament to the warm, compelling quality of Katherine’s writing. Fans hungry for more adventures won’t have long to wait to find out what lies in store for Sophie and Lil.”
Rights for The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow and The Mystery of the Jewelled Moth have been sold to Kane Miller in the US, with publication of the first book set for June 2016.
WF Howes has acquired audio rights in the first two books, and German rights for The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow have been bought by Ravensburger from Clementine Gaisman at ILA.
