Ebury has acquired a memoir written by Shane Spall, wife of actor Timothy Spall, describing their journeys on their boat The Princess Matilda, and his battle with acute leukaemia.
Publisher Jake Lingwood bought UK, Commonwealth and EU rights from Laetitia Rutherford at Mulcahy Conway Associates in the title, The Voyages of The Princess Matilda. Ebury plans to publish in March 2012 as an £11.99 paperback.
The book tells two stories, one about how the Spalls took charge of their new boat and attempted to sail to Wales, and the second about the "Secrets and Lies" actor's fight against cancer.
The Spalls' adventures have already been the subject of two BBC4 series, "The Spalls at Sea". The third series will be broadcast to coincide with the book's publication in March.
Lingwood said: "Shane has written the most fantastic, uplifting books. It's a minor epic. It took them five years to get from London to Cardiff! And it has everything that the very best travel books have. Loads of humour. Beautifully drawn characters, poignant and inspiring moments. And of course, the most wonderful couple promoting it. I'm certain it will become a modern travel classic."
