Ebury Publishing has acquired a book about the London Underground by musician, writer and vlogger Alex Day, who has more than a million followers on YouTube.
Deputy publisher Andrew Goodfellow and commissioning editor Sara Cywinski bought world English language and e-book rights from Ivan Mulcahy at Mulcahy Associates.
The book is based on Day’s visits to all 270 Tube stations. Ebury said: “Funny, fascinating and touching, this is a tale of one man's obsession and adventure – and the human stories that are only a train ride away.”
Day has also had three UK top 40 hit songs, and his song Forever Yours is currently top in the Guinness World Records for highest-charting single by an unsigned artist.
Cywinski said: “To be 24 years old with over a million YouTube followers, and three hit records, shows what an amazing young entrepreneur he is. Just like the man himself, this book is unique, funny and informative, and we expect big things.”
Mulcahy said: “Alex Day has personally created a huge fan base who love his music and his clever, quick and likeable nature. They are going to be delighted to discover that his writing also exhibits these same qualities.”
Day said: “I'm chuffed that I'm being granted the chance to reach a much wider audience with a book that I hope people enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing it. Making YouTube videos about the publishing process is a no-brainer for me; I make videos to communicate things about my life to the people that care about it, and right now my life is the journey to becoming an author.”
Day’s book, as yet untitled, will be published on July 17th in paperback and e-book, priced at £8.99.
