Ebury Press has acquired a book sharing the “quintessentially Parisian art of being a woman”, written by four Parisiennes, and bought at auction in a simultaneous deal with Random House Australia.
Editorial director Lizzy Gray bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada and ANZ, in How to be a Parisian Wherever you Are in the World at auction from Kerry Glencorse at Susanna Lea Associates. Random House Australia bought ANZ rights at auction in a simultaneous deal.
It is written by novelist Anne Berest; Audrey Diwan, a journalist; Caroline de Maigret, a model and Chanel ambassador; and Sophie Mas, film producer.
The book will explain every characteristic of the Parisienne, from culture, attitude and fashion, as well as food, men and motherhood.
Gray said: “No one epitomises aspirational French style more than a Parisienne and this book will show how we can all acquire a touch of je ne sais quoi. The book is infused with wit and savoir faire, and will be as desirable and promotable as the authors themselves.”
Ebury Press will publish in autumn 2014 as a £16.99 hardback.
Meanwhile, rights have been sold at auction to Knopf/Doubleday in the US and Objetiva in Brazil; Mondadori pre-empted rights in Italy, and deals are underway in Germany, Poland, Russia and Taiwan.
