Ebury Publishing is launching a writing competition exclusively for booksellers. The competition, which kicks off on 1st May, is being launched in conjunction with by Tim Clare's new book We Can't All be Astronauts, about an aspiring author.
Booksellers must email the first five pages of an unpublished novel and a synopsis of their book to astronauts@eburypublishing.co.uk.
The first prize is to have an excerpt of the novel published on the Random House ReadersPlace website, along with an editorial critique by Gillian Green, editorial director for fiction. The 10 runners-up will receive a copy of the book by Clare.
Green will be one of the judges alongside marketing manager Alex Young, the author Clare and his agent Rebecca Winfield.
Green said: "We Can't All be Astronauts is a very funny look at the life of an aspiring novelist and frustrated literary dreams. We're delighted to be working on this competition to find a potential literary star from the bookselling community, as we suspect that many booksellers also write in their spare time. We're hoping for entries from all different sorts of people who write all different sorts of books. Who knows what this may be the start of?"
We Can't All be Astronauts will be published by Ebury on 4th June in trade paperback. The closing date for entries is also 4th June.
