The Society of Chief Librarians (SCL) Ciara Eastell has been confirmed as the group’s president elect.
She will take over the role of president from Janene Cox in June 2014 for a two year term.
Eastell is currently the head of libraries, culture and heritage for Devon County Council, having spent the last five years working for the library service in the county. She began her career in the Gateshead libraries and arts service, and has since worked in Cambridgeshire and Somerset. She also spent three years leading a national programme with The Reading Agency to co-produce a better library service for young people.
Cox said that Eastell's “significant experience of major service transformation and modernisation will assist the Society greatly in the coming months and years.”
Devon Libraries has been shortlisted for Library of the Year at the 2013 Bookseller Industry Awards, to be presented on Monday (13th May).
