Irish bookseller Eason is to hold talks at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) next week with staff facing a reported 10% pay cut and 90 jobs at risk.
The meeting will take place next Tuesday (30th August) in Dublin between Eason and unions Siptu and Mandate. Eason m.d. Conor Whelan has previously announced the company was seeking to make €8m in savings.
The Irish Times said the company denied reports it was planning to close a number of stores to achieve the cost reductions. The retailer said changes to wages, holiday and sick pay structures were up for discussion. The Irish Independent reports the retailer is proposing compulsory redundancies on a store by store basis.
In a statement, Eason said: "Whilst a range of alternative measures have been discussed, it is hoped that the meetings at the LRC will allow an agreement to be reached on the best way to achieve these savings."
The job losses are likely to include both voluntary and compulsory redundancies. Eason employs around 1,200 people in Ireland and operates more than 50 stores.
