Eason launches EasonOffers.com

Irish book chain and stationers Eason has launched a daily offers site, EasonOffers.com, with the website offering a large discount on one item at a time each day, with free delivery to anywhere in Ireland.

Books offered so far include JFK in Ireland by Ryan Tubridy (Collins) and a box-set of the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson (Quercus).

Currently on offer on the site is the stereo HS-2400 Headset, being sold with the grab-line: "What's the fun in having all the best books out there if you can't chat about them with your friends?" It is being sold for €8.99 (£7.90), a saving of €6.

Each offer features exclusively on the site for a 24-hour period, but needs a "minimum number" of people to sign up to the offer for it to go through. If the requisite number of people do not sign up, no one will be able to purchase it at that price, and nobody will be charged.

A spokesperson for Eason said more information would be forthcoming early next week, when the site will be officially launched.

Other retailers have employed similar ideas. Amazon.co.uk last year brought its Black Friday promotion to the UK, with a week of high discounts across all product categories on a series of "limited time" deals, as with the EasonOffers site.

The Stieg Larsson box-set was also one of the items on offer as part of Black Friday. In the week prior to the promotion, it sold 33 copies in the UK across Nielsen BookScan for an a.s.p. of £52.64, 25% off the r.r.p. of £69.99. The following week, it sold 458 copies, up 1,300% on the previous week, and selling for an a.s.p. of £38.68, 45% off the r.r.p.
