Waterstones has said it will be the first retailer to go on sale with signed copies of Dan Brown's new novel Inferno on publication next Tuesday (14th May).
The chain's flagship Piccadilly store will open at 8am on the day of publication with 200 signed copies to sell on a first-come, first basis to customers, who will only be able to buy one copy each.
Waterstones' fiction buyer Chris White is throwing his hat into the ring and predicting Inferno will hit the top of the charts next week and as far away as on Christmas Day later in the year. He said: "This should be the fastest and biggest selling novel of the year it¹s hard to see how anything could beat it. It¹ll be a huge hit now and throughout the summer, then see another peak at Christmas. It could well be number one on December 25th."
The book has already received the chain's largest level of customer per-orders since J K Rowling's The Casual Vacancy, the store said. Waterstones has been offering customers half-price offer on pre-orders price of £10. The hardback has an r.r.p of £20.
Inferno will see symbologist Robert Langdon, who has also appeared in Brown¹s previous titles Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code, tackle a mystery centred around one of history¹s most enduring literary masterpieces.
Waterstones is also hosting Dan Brown's only UK event at Freemasons' Hall on 21st May, with tickets still on sale at Facebook.com/waterstones.
