Jason Dunne, publisher for the For Dummies and Capstone imprint at John Wiley has resigned to start a print/online publishing consultancy. Dunne has left John Wiley after being there for over six years.
"I left Wiley because I'm very excited about the iPhone and the rise of touch-screen phones in general," said Dunne. "I'm going to spend some time putting together a roster of developers to build mobile applications for the consumer mass-market, and offer consulting services to any book publisher looking to do the same. The iPhone programmer community is quite dispersed and is crying out for good content ideas. They know there's money on the table but most don't have a publisher's nose."
Dunne said that he hoped to launch his first few applications in autumn this year but is yet to assign a company name. To contact Dunne, email jd@jasondunne.co.uk.
