The owner of the Independent Bookseller of the Year 2014 is seeking a business partner to help grow her thriving business.
Sheila O’Reilly from Dulwich Books in London is looking for a passionate book lover who already knows the publishing and bookselling industry to join her business in the role of director/business partner to expand the company in multiple directions.
O’Reilly won last year’s Independent Bookseller of the Year title at the Bookseller Industry Awards and said the additional management and investment would mean the business could maintain its "momentum" since winning the prize. At the same time, the move would free her up to pursue more ambitious avenues like launching a publishing arm.
O’Reilly said: “It is a positive challenge, it is a great thing to be doing. I feel we are fortunate enough to be in a place where we can go to the next level as a bookshop. There is a great momentum here and the physical bookshop is in great shape. Because we are based in London, we are in a great place to meet publishers and authors and I think we could take more advantage of that. The business needs somebody who will take on the role of director and strategy.”
She added: “Dulwich Book Festival was a firm success in its inaugural year last year and it would be great to build on that. There are lots of areas for development."
Dulwich Books is in a robust and healthy financial shape, O’Reilly added, with sales up 6% for the first quarter of the year in comparison to the same period last year.
The business was praised by BIA judges last year for combining the traditional virtues of bookselling with thoroughly modern marketing and digital activity as well as its “compelling range of events" with bestselling authors.
