Aurum is publishing a memoir by the late actress Elisabeth Sladen, best known for her role as Sarah Jane Smith in "Doctor Who".
Aurum editor Sam Harrison had approached Sladen directly, buying world rights to the book directly from her. The book was completed in draft before her death in April and will now be published in the autumn, with the approval of Sladen's family. Elisabeth Sladen: The Autobiography will go on sale on 7th November, priced £20.
Sladen grew up in Liverpool and began her career in the theatre before finding unexpected fame as the companion to both Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker in "Doctor Who". She rejoined the "Doctor Who" cast in 2006, starring alongside David Tennant.
Harrison said: "I remember my first meeting with Elisabeth—the hilarious and eye-opening stories she had to tell and my feeling of elation that she wanted to turn them into a book. Having grown up watching her as Sarah Jane Smith it was a personal dream come true.
"She was a fantastic person to work with—fun but utterly professional—and it’s incredibly sad that she’s no longer with us. I’m glad she had a chance to share some of her memories in this book. I hope it will make a fitting tribute to a great actress and a wonderful woman."
