DK Books has printed 200,000 copies of Mary Berry’s latest cookbook, twice the number it usually prints for a Berry title.
Speaking at a tea event held at the Ritz Hotel yesterday (3rd September) to launch Mary Berry Cooks the Perfect, released this week, DK Life publisher Mary-Clare Jerram told retailers: "You’ve compelled us to print over 200,000 copies of this book before it’s even been printed. That’s pretty amazing. That’s actually twice the quantity we’ve ever printed before for a Mary book. Normally we print about 100,000 copies so I think this has got a real headwind behind it. It’s a real testament to Mary."
Berry thanked the DK team, saying : “Together we have masterminded what I think is a very original cookery book which deserves to be successful."
“There’s every type of recipe there, and not a baked Alaska in sight,” she added, referring to last week’s eventful episode of BBC1 series "The Great British Bake Off", on which she is a judge.
Future publicity for Mary Berry Cooks the Perfect will include appearances by Berry on BBC Radio 2’s "Steve Wright Show" on 10th September, BBC1's "Saturday Kitchen" on 27th September, and BBC Radio 2's "The Graham Norton Show" on 1st November.
The Ritz event was attended by retailers, media, Berry’s agent Felicity Bryan, and friends and family. Other Berry books this year include Cook Now, Eat Later (Headline) and Mary Berry Cooks (BBC Books).
