Chris Evans' memoir, It's Not What You Think (HarperCollins), is the early ebook bestseller at Apple's iBookstore. The book, recently released in a mass-market format with an r.r.p. of £7.99 has been selling at around £5.20 at UK bookshops on average in recent weeks. But at a bargain £3.99, the ebook has shot to the top of the UK iBooks chart.
Second on the list is Jeremy Clarkson's third World According to Clarkson instalment, For Crying Out Loud (Penguin). The £6.49 ebook, first published in 2008, is £1.50 cheaper than its mass-market edition's r.r.p., and 26 pence cheaper than the mass-market edition's average selling price over the past four weeks. However, Waterstones.com (£5.59), Amazon.co.uk (£4.57) and Whsmith.co.uk (£5.59) are all currently selling the paperback publication at a cheaper price than its e-alternative. Clarkson's Driven to Distraction (Penguin), recently released in a mass-market format, also makes the Top 10, in seventh position.
The late Michael Crichton's Pirate Latitudes (HarperCollins), which was released posthumously in November 2009 after the author's death 12 months earlier, takes third position in the charts. Frankie Boyle's memoir, My Shit Life So Far, also earns a position in the Top 10. The book has yet to be released in a mass-market edition at UK bookshops, so its ebook r.r.p. of £9.99 is comfortably the highest in the Top 10.
HarperCollins titles take six of the Top 10 positions (including an eighth position for Jules Verne's bargain-priced 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea‚ £1.49), while Penguin take three spots, and Pan Macmillan one. But there's no place in the charts for the writer of the three bestselling books over the past four weeks—Stieg Larsson. All three thrillers that comprise the late Swede's Millennium trilogy have sold more than 75,000 copies at UK bookshops over the four weeks to 22nd May period, but ebook editions are yet to appear.
