Quadrille has acquired a new wine title from Guardian sketch writer and Spectator wine columnist Simon Hoggart.
Editorial director Anne Furniss acquired the title from Hoggart's literary agent, Jane Turnbull. 100 Wines for the Discerning Drinker will be published this September as a £14.99 hardback.
Hoggart has been wine correspondent of the Spectator since 2001. He also runs the magazine's Wine Club.
Furniss said: "Simon has written a hugely enjoyable title for the enthusiastic layman, and his infectious pleasure in finding a delicious, reasonably priced bottle comes to the page here. He has a brilliant track record with books such as The Cat that Could Open the Fridge and The Hamster That Loved Puccini. We are confident this will be just such a Christmas bestseller.
She continued, "The book is an eclectic and personal selection aimed at the amateur wine lover who likes to drink wine frequently, who loves a bargain but is prepared to spend a little bit more than supermarket prices to get something special."
