A new digital and print-on-demand publishing house will launch this December.
Hashtag Books is the joint venture of Peter Buckman of The Ampersand Agency and self-published author Tim O’Rourke, who wanted to create an “audience and a home” for “quality writers who were not snapped up by conventional publishers".
Buckman, who has worked at Penguin UK and The New American Library in New York, said Hashtag’s aim is to publish established contemporary authors and “neglected classics”, as well as “writers that conventional publishers are too cautious to take on”.
The launch list, publishing on 1st December and ranging between £1.99 and £2.99, includes five titles: Demonica, a horror story by Betty Trask winner Will Davis; three Cold War thrillers originally published in the 1960s and 70s by Alan Williams; and Stilts, the first in a new sci-fi series by O’Rourke.
Hashtag is also piloting a print-on-demand service. “When you’re a small imprint you can devote attention to things that matter in the digital world,” Buckman said. “A new digital imprint takes the risk, and if it shows the market is there, conventional publishers might take an interest.”
