David Higham Associates has selected a 12-strong shortlist of authors to attend its second open day for writers from under-represented backgrounds.
The agency originally planned to invite 10 authors to the event on 27th June but said the number of "standout submissions" saw 12 writers offered places.
In a statement, DHA said: "We were impressed by the high quality of applications we received, and readers across the company enjoyed the wide range of genres and concepts. We intended to invite 10 authors on the day, however there were so many standout submissions that we have offered places to 12 carefully selected candidates who we are looking forward to meeting next month.
"Following positive feedback from our inaugural open day for adult fiction writing last December, the day will consist of talks from industry professionals aiming to demystify the industry and shed some light on the full scope of the process from pen to publication. Authors will each receive one-on-one feedback from DHA representatives on their submitted texts and advice on how to craft query letters."
The shortlisted writers are: Caroline Lowrie, Attiya Khan, Lui Sit, Sian Tower, Fran Benson, Dawn Treacher, Saara Eldin, Dale Hannah, Charlotte Gajek, Jo Somerset, April Roach and Charlotte Comley.
Jasmine Richards, who recently launched Storymix, a fiction development company focusing on inclusive stories for children, will attend as a guest speaker and share her experiences as an author with a unique insider perspective on the industry.
The next DHA open day will take place in September 2019 with a focus on scriptwriting for film, stage and television.
