Alexa Allen-Batifoulier has been appointed senior commissioning editor at Del Rey, as the imprint expands its editorial team. She will be reporting to publishing director Claire Simmonds, and publishing "witchy, gothic, lyrical and atmospheric" fiction.
Allen-Batifoulier will join Del Rey on 17th June from Dialogue Books, where she was an editor at Renegade. She has acquired and published Geneva Lee’s Filthy Rich Fae series, Hazel McBride’s romantasy debut, A Fate Forged In Fire, and Pyae Moe Thet War’s romance debut, I Did Something Bad. She has also worked at Little, Brown, contributing to the lists at both Fleet and Virago.
Before this, Allen-Batifoulier was based in New York, and worked at Amistad – an imprint of HarperCollins US – where she focused on publishing work by marginalised voices and Black cultural icons, including Jenifer Lewis and George McCalman.
"My time at Dialogue has been wonderful, and it’s been a huge privilege to collaborate with so many talented colleagues and authors," Allen-Batifoulier said. "However, I’m thrilled to be joining the dynamic team at Del Rey and look forward to contributing to their truly impressive list. In my role, I’m looking for all things witchy, Gothic, lyrical and atmospheric – I’d love to see it all."
Simmonds added: "We could not be more excited to welcome Alexa to Del Rey. She brings a wealth of experience and impressed us throughout the interview process with her sharp commercial instincts, creative flair and passion for genre fiction. She has outstanding taste and vision for her authors, and I can’t wait to see her thrive at Del Rey as she builds her list."
