Debut thriller to Faber

Faber has pre-empted a debut thriller by Tim Baker, Fever City.

Editorial director Angus Cargill bought UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada, and translation rights, in a deal with Tom Witcomb at Blake Friedmann.

The book is made of up three linking narratives, beginning with a kidnapping in LA in 1960, before moving to the JFK assassination and then the modern day, where a son discovers his father's involvement with both events.

Cargill said Fever City was "one of the most impressive debuts I've ever read", adding: "This is both a sophisticated, smart thriller and a furious page turner."

Baker was born in Australia, before moving to Paris, becoming involved in the jazz scene and working at the Australian embassy with high profile crime cases. He has co-written films and and TV programmes.
