Retail and publishing expert David Roche is launching a mentoring and coaching service through his company David Roche Enterprises.
The former c.e.o. of Borders & Books and group sales and marketing director of HarperCollins has created Grey Area Coaching, aimed at supporting and developing talent at every level in the publishing industry.
The services are aimed at directors, authors and those wishing to be published, and individuals just starting out in their careers. New entrants from underrepresented groups will be offered two free coaching packages.
Roche said: “I have always taken huge satisfaction in helping develop talented individuals’ careers and building successful teams. I genuinely get a thrill from unlocking the potential of others and seeing them succeed at the highest level, often beyond where they had initially believed possible.
"I have benefited personally from executive coaching at several key points in my career and know how important it is to reflect deeply on one’s own performance and motivation and how we keep making progress. The disciplines involved also enable me to be a more effective NED [non-executive director]. I look forward to working with many people both within and outside the publishing industry to help them realise their potential.”
Roche will continue to fulfil his existing roles as chair of London Book Fair, New Writing North and BookBrunch.
Charlie Redmayne, c.e.o. of HarperCollins UK, said: "David is a natural leader, listener and connector who genuinely wants people to perform to the best of their ability and he has the necessary expertise, experience, insight and networks to help them do so. He is someone I have great respect for and I know that he will be an exceptional coach and mentor."
