Daily Telegraph launches search for Britain's best bookshop

The Telegraph Magazine is to award the 'Best Bookshop' as part of its quest to find Britain’s Best Small Shops in the 2010 Shop Awards.

Readers of the magazine will be invited to vote for their favourite bookshop alongside nine other categories in the awards. The competition goes live on Saturday (9th October) and readers can vote online. The shops voted for or nominated must have no more than five branches.

The three shops in each category with the most votes will form a shortlist, from which a panel including retail guru Mary Portas, Gaby Wood, head of books at The Daily Telegraph and Telegraph Magazine editor Michele Lavery will select a winner. Voting closes in December and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony next year.

Lavery said: "This year we have chosen to recognise and celebrate the smaller, independent retailers which make our high streets such vibrant and interesting places to visit."
