Corvus has bought a new title it describes as a "deliciously terrifying mash-up of horror, fantasy, thriller and satire".
The Mall tells of drug addict Rhoda who bullies shopping centre worker Dan into helping her find a child who went missing while she was babysitting it. While exploring the corridors of the building, disturbing text messages lure them deeper in and the pair enter a sinister underworld.
Senior editor Laura Palmer bought world rights (all languages excluding Canada and the US) from Oli Munson at Blake Freidmann.
Palmer said: "Have you ever felt that moment of brain-clutching, heart-stopping fear when something ordinary mutates into something terrifying, just for a split-second? Like when a light flickers, and the shadows turn menacing. Or when a lift stops suddenly before it’s reached your floor. Well, that’s what it’s like reading The Mall – only it’s not over in a split-second. When I finally finished reading at 4am, my adrenaline was pumping too fast to go to sleep. And I knew I had to buy this book."
The publisher said the author is a "mysterious, genderless persona". The Mall will be published in hardback on 1st June 2011 r.r.p. £14.99.
