Coronet buys quirky romantic comedy

Coronet has acquired two books from a journalist and debut novelist Jessica Thompson.

Editor Charlotte Haycock bought British Commonwealth rights in a deal with Sheila Crowley at Curtis Brown. The first title, This is a Love Story, is a romantic comedy following Nick and Sienna who are both "scared of taking the risk when it comes to love".

Haycock said: "Jessica is an exciting young talent and hers is a fresh new voice in fiction. This is a Love Story takes you on an emotional journey, it makes you laugh and it makes you cry and reading Jessica's writing is like watching a quirky indie movie–her style reminds me of [film] '500 Days of Summer'. I'm thrilled to be working with Jessica and to have such a brilliant new talent on the Coronet list."

Coronet will publish in February 2012, with Thompson's second novel to follow a year later.
