Constable & Robinson has acquired a non-fiction title about looking on the bright side by University College London neuroscientist Tali Sharot.
Commissioning editor Jamie Joseph, who is building the publisher's psychology list, signed the deal for UK and Commonwealth rights to The Optimism Bias through Sophie Lambert at Tibor Jones & Associates. Constable plans to publish in January 2012.
In the book, Sharot combines scientific findings with personal stories, examining how optimism helps us function and face difficult situations. Joseph said: "The Optimism Bias provides a fascinating investigation of how our brains are wired for positive predictions and why the illusion of optimism may be essential to our survival. Tali writes with a wonderful clarity and it's no surprise that this book has already garnered enormous interest in the US."
