Constable has acquired three new crime titles from E V Harte, the pseudonym of Daisy Waugh.
Publishing director Krystyna Green acquired world rights to The Prime of Miss Dolly Greene and two others from Sheila Crowley at Curtis Brown.
Set in Barnes, the “warm and witty” first in the series is described as “South West London’s answer to Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency.” The Prime of Miss Dolly Greene introduces the reader to Dolly, a middle-aged divorcee and financially challenged Tarot reader, thrown into the mystery of who murdered her cantankerous neighbour. She finds herself teaming up with attractive yet odd (and single) police officer Raff Williams to try and find out what happened.
Green said: “We are absolutely thrilled by the potential in this three-book acquisition. Daisy is already well established as a writer with a keen eye for the absurdities in the mundane, and is known for her laugh-out-loud observations and dialogue. To be joining the Constable list alongside authors such as our bestseller M C Beaton makes this a particularly exciting acquisition. And of course the series is set to run and run.”
Waugh added: “The joy of setting the stories in contemporary London means there can never be a shortage of juicy characters – or material. And yet, despite setting these in the capital there is still a village-type feel to Barnes. It would be impossible to run out of ideas, and I look forward to writing many more books in this series… My last three novels were set in early 20th Century America, and now I’ve come home. It feels wonderful and I’m so delighted to be joining the Constable team."
Constable will be publishing the first Dolly Greene title in September 2017, with books two and three following in April and November 2018.
