Connect Books has appointed Justin Adams to the position of managing director. Adams will take over the running of the company in November.
Adams succeeds current m.d. Graeme Underhill (pictured), who is retiring at the end of 2014 after 39 years in various roles at the Connect Group.
Adams’ most recent role has been as c.e.o. of SealSkinz, an outdoor clothing website. He has also sat on the Greene King board, and spent five years as the m.d. of the brewing company. Adams will report to group chief executive Mark Cashmore and have accountability for leading the books division, supported by the executive team.
A statement from Connect Group said: “Justin brings a huge breadth and depth of experience to the managing director role.”
The books wholesaler, formerly known as Bertrams, is owned by the Connect Group (formerly Smiths News PLC), which rebranded and became the Connect Group in April 2014. The company has seen a number of personnel changes over the past few months.
Jason Cherrington, formerly its commercial director, resigned in June, and Toby Bourne, formerly the wholesaler’s digital director, left shortly afterwards.
Recent results showed falling sales at the wholesaler, which it attributed to a “challenging” books market.
