Collins has launched a website for bird lovers, which offers users a discussion forum and species pages for more than 5,000 types of birds. Birdwatchers can buy Collins titles from the site through Amazon.co.uk.
Among the other features are a profile page for users to log bird sightings, a shared satellite map that displays bird sightings of every user and a 'bird detective', where users help to identify mystery species.
Alex Gatrell, digital publisher for Collins, said: "Our aim is to open up the world of online bird watching to the casual garden bird watcher, so we invite users to report all sightings, not just rarities. CollinsBirds.com is designed to be very easy to use and as word spreads we look forward to hosting a fantastic birding community which not only solves the eternal question of what’s that bird, but also helps to track the distribution and welfare of birds as users upload their sightings on a regular basis."
The publisher is also offering users a chance to win the second edition of the Collins Bird Guide, signed by each of the book's three authors. Users must register on the site and report at least 10 bird sightings by the end of March.
