Coelho signs exclusive deal with Amazon

<p>Paulo Coelho, author of <em>The Alchemist</em>, has signed an exclusive deal with Amazon to sell 17 of his e-books in Portuguese.</p><p>It is the first time these editions, including The Alchemist, have been available from Amazon as e-books. Coelho&#39;s English language e-books are already sold on the site. The exclusivity deal runs for six months.</p><p>Russ Grandinetti, vice president for Kindle Content, said: &quot;Our customers around the world have long been fans of Paulo Coelho&#39;s books. We&#39;re thrilled to work with Mr. Coelho to offer these titles in his native Portuguese in the Kindle Store for download in less than 60 seconds in more than 100<br />countries around the world.&quot;</p><p>Coelho said: &quot;The great opportunity that Kindle offers to a writer is that it allows readers who are not in their country and do not have access to their local bookstores to immediately access texts in their mother tongue. </p><p>&quot;Therefore, it is with great joy that I now see all my books in Portuguese, so far only available abroad in a few specialised bookstores, being just a click away from all Portuguese readers that are around the world.&quot;</p><p>It is not the first time an author has an exclusive deal with Amazon for e-books. Last month, Stephen Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, <a href="../news/106696-business-author-signs-exclusive-e-rights-deal-with-amazon.html" target="_blank">signed a deal with the retailer for it to sell two of his titles exclusively through the Kindle store for one yea</a>r.</p>
