Christmas tills ring louder than ever

High street booksellers' tills rang to the tune of &pound;65m in the week before Christmas, beating all previous records for that sector of the market, according to data monitoring agency Whitaker BookTrack.</p><p>
Pre-Christmas sales for the new Total Consumer Market, monitored by BookTrack, beat predictions (The Bookseller, 15th December 2000) by reaching &pound;75m in the week ending 23rd December. The TCM includes supermarket, travel, Internet and academic booksellers.</p><p>
