Christmas Retail Survey: A season of mixed gifts for indies

<p>Christmas sales in 2005 were greater than those in 2004 for half of independent booksellers in the UK and Ireland, with those in London having a particularly challenging December.</p><p>One wholesaler said independents had "really been left out in the cold" by online retailers and supermarkets taking share on discounted hardbacks.
