Canongate has signed two Matt Haig titles, a follow-up to his forthcoming Christmas-themed children’s book, and his first adult novel since The Humans.
Francis Bickmore acquired world rights to A Girl Called Christmas, Haig’s second collaboration with illustrator Chris Mould, and an as-yet-untitled novel. The books are due in autumn 2016 and summer 2017 respectively. Bickmore concluded both deals with Claire Conville at Conville & Walsh.
Haig and Mould’s A Boy Called Christmas will be published in the UK in November and Canongate has sold it into 14 territories to date, including the US (Knopf), Canada (HarperCollins) and Italy (Salani). The trio of international publishers have also acquired rights to A Girl Called Christmas. Film rights for A Boy Called Christmas have been sold by Curtis Brown’s Camilla Young and Nick Marston, to Studio Canal in association with Blueprint Pictures.
Bickmore said: "Canongate is thrilled to be able to continue to build Matt’s career with this two-book, world-rights deal."
