Former Bertrams UK sales and marketing director Chris Rushby is joining Norwich-based department store and bookseller Jarrold.
Rushby will run the bookselling operation at the store, replacing Michael Butler, who is retiring after 12 years. He stepped into the role of book buyer manager on Monday (5th November).
Michelle Jarrold, development director at Jarrold, said: "We are delighted Chris will be joining us to build on the many achievements of Mike and his team. Chris’s in-depth understanding of the book trade and the strategies being adopted by the very best independent booksellers in the UK will be a great boost for our bookselling ambitions."
Jarrold added: "Bookselling is changing fast, but an independent bookshop embedded into an independent department store creates unique opportunities to generate the vibrancy, local focus and cross-promotion 21st century bookselling requires.” The fifth Jarrold/EDP East Anglian Book Awards take place in conjunction with the Writers Centre Norwich next month.
Rushby was at wholesaler Bertrams for eight years, where his roles included commercial director of the library business, buying director and then sales and marketing director. He previously worked at Waterstones, Blackwell and W H Smith. He left Bertrams in March as part of a shake-up of the executive team.
