Choc Lit has acquired a novel which was shortlisted for HarperCollins People’s Novelist of the Year competition.
World rights in Melanie Hudson's debut The Wedding Cake Tree, which was initially self-published, were bought direct from the author.
It is the first time Choc Lit has signed a self-published author. The publisher said Hudson’s “strong track record in sales and publicity was a major draw”.
Hudson told The Bookseller: “I am delighted to sign with Choc Lit. They’ve just been awarded Publisher of the Year at the Festival of Romance. This seems a good time to join and a reward for my hard work in promoting my debut novel.”
The Wedding Cake Tree will be published by Choc Lit in all e-book formats worldwide from February 1st 2014.
The People’s Novelist competition, aired on "The Alan Titchmarsh Show" on ITV1 in 2011, was won by Madeleine Reiss’s Someone to Watch Over Me, published this year by HarperCollins.
