A new independent called The Chiswick Bookshop is set to open its doors for the first time in London tomorrow (6th November), with American journalist and writer Judith Miller cutting the ribbon.
Publisher and wholesaler Hyde Park Editions is behind the shop on Turnham Green, which will sell frontlist bestsellers, art books and children’s titles as well as gifts over 650 sq ft of space.
The company will also operate from an office the back of the store.
Emily Crane, sales manager for Hyde Park Editions, who will be running the bookshop, said: “It will be brimming with bestsellers, gorgeous art books, history, local interest, and children’s titles, as well as some lovely gift and lifestyle lines, from some really great, and in many cases local, or at least London, brands. The Chiswick community supports a range of independent shops and we hope to say thanks by providing more than a bookshop. We envisage it to be a community space, where book clubs will be encouraged and many events where authors, artists, local producers will be showcased.”
Crane added that she was “born and grew up in Chiswick”, with her parents and many friends still living here, who she said had been “quite vocal about what they want from the shop, so there is a special resonance for us opening here.”
“It is completely different to what I do and what I have been doing, but the everyone in the publishing industry is so lovely, which is why I love working in it so much, and I have phoned them up for advice and they have all been very helpful,” she said.
