China's biggest online book retailer Dangdang has launched its anticipated e-book platform, with approximately 50,000 titles initially on sale through e.dangdang.com.
Chief executive officer Guoling Li said the company was "excited to break new ground with the launch of the e-book platform for our customers." He added: "While we expect the revenue contribution from e-book sales to be modest initially, we believe that e-books will strengthen our leading position in the online book retailing market and play an increasingly important role in our media segment going forward."
Consumers can buy and download the titles to read on smartphones and tablet PCs.
