China's biggest online book retailer E-Commerce China Dangdang plans to begin selling e-books within weeks.
Reuters reports that Dangdang, sometimes called "China's Amazon", will begin with around 50,000 e-books which consumers can download to smartphones and tablet PCs.
"We already have an edge selling books online, so I think we'll become a leading player for e-books in China," chief financial officer Conor Yang told the news agency.
The Chinese retailer intends to start its e-book sales before Christmas or early in 2012.
